Monday Illustration Drop

Emcee

EmceeHere’s an unfinished piece that I was able to put to use for a flyer. This is just a simple illustration with monochromatic color palette. I wanted to add intense background lights and maybe spread sparkling flashes across the face, hat and hands. Expect more pieces in this style. Some will have more detail and bright colors while others will be composed of simplified shapes.

Ingredients for creating a decent quick flyer? Give the color some punch and keep it simple. Real Simple. Since it is a flyer for a hip hop showcase, why not add a few ink drops?

This weekend was a great sports weekend. UFC 81 was a great card! Nogueira won in a classic Nogueira-style fight. Tim Sylvia did the best he could do and made the fight very interesting. As Dana White stated, he didn’t fence hump for five rounds. Brock Lesnar looked as athletic and intimidating as ever. Too bad his ju-jitsu defensive skills were not enough to stop Frank Mir’s kneebar. The fight was exciting, I was watching the fight with several WWE fans who were actually shocked to see Lesnar lose. I guess they never saw Royce Gracie beat many men twice his size. Chris Lytle declared that he is no longer afraid to lose a fight and he intends to end his fights, no more decisions for him. GO WATCH Lytle vs Kyle Bradley. I hope Lytle continues to fight with that unbridled aggression like Houston Alexander. Newcomer Tim Boetsch is serving notice. Ricardo Almeida looks like a great middleweight prospect. He looks like he is ready for the Silvas, Hendersons, and Franklins of the 185lbs weight limit.

The next two UFC cards are going to be great. UFC 82 features Silva vs. Henderson, Kongo and Herring. The UFC Fight Night appears to be stacked with potentially great fights.

SuperBowl XLII was great. The NY Giants pulled off an improbable victory. The highlight of the game was the 4th quarter, game winning 83 yard touchdown drive that displayed a scrambling composed Eli Manning and the hollywood-made-for-the-movies catch by David Tyree. I understand Manning getting the MVP nod, but I thought the game was decided by the defensive team grueling effort. Unfortunately, the Patriots did not complete their historic perfect season. Go ’72 Dolphins! Interesting tidbit, all Belichick-Brady SuperBowls were decided by 3 points.

Do you think Tiki Barber regrets retiring too soon?
