MMA Drawing: Quick sketch of Brendan Schaub

quick drawing of Brenden Schaub

Some quick sketches on a slow but productive Sunday. A took some liberty to mess with his nose. Brendan Schaub will surely be back. He’s young, athletic and will only get better. He seems like one of those fighters that will improve from his first KO loss.

MMA Drawing: Fun with Roy Nelson

cheesy drawings of Roy Nelson

This is by far the greatest caricature of Roy Nelson but it was fun drawing it. Good Luck Big Country Roy Nelson! UPDATE: Roy Nelson defeats young Brendan Schaub by vicious KO punch.

MMA Drawing: War Machine

Jon Koppenhaver, War Machine

Jon Koppenhaver legal name is War Machine. He went from exciting prospect in the UFC to porn star in a matter of seconds. His exploits since his release from the UFC has become legendary-MMA-internet-fodder. He apparently he enjoys expressing himself on social networks like Twitter/WarMachineXXX.

Pacquiao!

drawing of Manny Pacquiao
I had fun with the rich, dark tone in the hair.

Manny Pacquiao became a boxing superstar after his wars against Morales, Barrera and Márquez. He pretty much cemented his legacy amongst the greatest this past Saturday after pummeling Miguel Angel Cotto for 12 rounds. I really don’t think too much about his two previous fights because Oscar De La Hoya was dehydrated and his reflexes left him years ago. Hatton? Hatton simply has little to no skill. He’s a brawler. Miguel Angel Cotto was a very credible opponent but he could not match Pacquiao in speed, power and more importantly skill. Pacquiao is just too good.

MMA – Marcus Jones: The Darkness Prevails

Marus Jones, The Ultimate Fighter

I could not find great photo reference for him but ehhh . . . so what. Cheesy drawings are fun!

While I am sure Marcus Jones has power, his striking looks really awkward. Jones appears to stick his head out, expose his chin and allowed the smaller fighter to close the distance. Tall men should fight like Lennox Lewis, stick the jab to establish your range and create distance. I know MMA is not boxing but I think it is sound fundamental technique. No? Oh well, the 6’6″, 265lbs. self-professed student of the game surprised everybody with a quick arm-bar submission victory off his back. SWEET! One of the best fights of the Ultimate Fighter Season 10 so far. He applied it quickly like an Abu-Dhabi Combat Club bjj professional. I guess he doesn’t suck balls.

I like the black man in this fight. I think he will let his blackness out, and it will reign supreme. Huge upset: Brett Rogers TKO in round one. Too big, too strong, too hungry! -Thomas Denny

Source: Sherdog.com – Pros Pick: Fedor vs. Rogers
Journey-man MMA fighter, Thomas Denny made this prediction for the huge Fedor Emelianenko – Brett Rogers fight this Saturday*. This is one of those awkward statements that may make some people cringe but I find amusing in a wierd way. I don’t think Denny has any racist intent behind his words just like I don’t think Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is racist when he makes an off-color, race-related remark. They both sounds like jerks, but they’re excuse because they fight for living . . . I guess, I don’t know. Allowing his blackness to reign supreme over one of the best MMA fighters ever is greater than UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar’s black body. Some times I really enjoy racially contentious news tidbits.

Matsui! Mariano! Posada! Jeter! CC! Damon! and Brian Cashman!
Obviously how much money the organization spends doesn’t really matter because they failed to win the World Series for a couple of years. A-Rod finally won a World Series and Andy Pettitte put on a great performance. I guess they both paid earned their lucrative salaries despite their soon-to-be forgotten personal indiscretions. It is going to be interesting to hear about the Yankees off-season negotiations.

Does Marcus Jones look remotely proficient on the ground? Off his back? Will the sports media question the integrity of the Yankees win and add an asterisk because of Alex Rodriguez and Andy Pettitte? Or will they conveniently forget it and sweep that story under the rug? And more importantly, how do you let your blackness reign supreme?

* The fight is on CBS, free regular television. You should really watch the entire program, you will not be dissappointed.

MMA Drawing No. 32: Cain Velasquez

BROWN PRIDE!
MEXICO REPRESENT!!! STAND UP!!
So far Cain Velasquez (6 – 0) has proven that he’s the real deal. He looks like a great prospect in the heavyweight division of the UFC. Velazquez has top-notch wrestling credentials and sports a decent chin. Will he be able to compete against a veteran like former IFC champion, Ben Rothwell? Can’t wait to check out UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun!!!

MMA Drawing No. 31: Rob Emerson

Drawing of MMA Fighter Rob Emerson

Hmmm . . . a slightly different approach but not really what I wanted to achieve. I was trying something more geometric like this old horrible aberration of shapes and lines.

My new sketchbook is really being put to use often. I didn’t see that happening, I started using it a month or two after purchasing it. I plan on filling the book page to page like I plan on posting daily throughout September. Next month I plan on slowing down on the MMA-related content and going all graffiti and hip hop crazy.

Rampage?!!?? I’ll believe he’s retired when and if he’s out of the Octagon for more than 2 or 3 years. I’m shocked but not surprised. All I can say is, good luck with Hollywood.
