Brandon Soderberg[1] recently began the Donald Goines Book Club, reading one of Goines’ titles each month. I thought that was a great idea because I always wanted to read the entire Goines catalog but never made a real effort. A structured Book Club should help me increase the amount of books I read this year. The plan is to read more often this year. I should be able to manage a minimum of 3 – 4 books a month. Books inspire, stimulate ideas and provide new approaches to creativity. So expect to see posts inspired by the crime riddled world of Donald Goines’ paperbacks.
I read Goines’ first novel Dopefiend earlier this year. The book was freaking tragic. I don’t think I’ll re-read that book any time soon. The book was a really good quick read but this was a sad tale that could have benefitted from a more upbeat ending. This book planted one horrible image in my head that I hope to soon forget.
