“In a lame attempt at humor I really just fell all over myself in making it appear that I wished Barack Obama harm or any other candidate for that matter. I sincerely regret it and apologize to anybody I’ve offended. It’s a very colorful political season* and many of us are making mistakes and saying things we wish we hadn’t said.”
- Liz Trotta
Emphasis, mine.
3-Time Emmy Award winner, Columbia School of Journalism graduate, former professor of Journalism at the Stern College of Yeshiva University and current Fox News contributor, Liz Trotta made a mistake.
While the son of Robert Kennedy defended Hillary Clinton’s blunder how do you explain this error in judgement? Was this a Saturday Night Live comedy sketch or the national news? And I’m sure Mike Huckabee’s joke at the NRA convention is now old news.
*This is by far one of the most entertaining election seasons. Everybody is talking sideways. Don’t tell me you do not remember the hyenas from the Lion King? I was thinking about using a fox or a jackal but I thought this pop culture image fits the best.

This article written by Dan Le Batard reads like a marketing piece to hype the machine that is Gary Shaw, Elite XC and Kevin Ferguson. Le Batard does little to address why he’s simultaneously extremely popular and detested. Throughout the ESPN article he reminds you that Kimbo Slice is very scary. He focuses on the fact that Ferguson had a difficult time not committing any crimes and he surprisingly does not have a criminal record. He then touches a slight nerve on the American psyche where he states, “while America might be ready to elect a black president, it’ll be a long time before it is unafraid of a giant and violent black man intent on harm.”
I’m not making any declaration of racism in MMA or sports in general but there’s a bias that often creeps into tone and language of sports media coverage. It’s interesting that the author decided to say “giant and violent” because that phrase has a substantial historical context. According to the New York Times, giant negroes terrorized American citizens throughout the early 1900’s. It’s very easy to dismiss events that occurred a century ago, but scary, violent, giant negroes are still being shot and executed in the America.*
His popularity has nothing to do with his infamous YouTube videos but everything to do with Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali and more recently Michael Gerard Tyson. Kimbo is more like Joe Louis because he’s not a showboat, controversial or the braggart-marketing machine that is the talented Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather. Disclaimer, I’m not a journalist just a blogger that posts drawings but for a more scholarly explanation you should check out Ken Burn’s 2004 documentary titled “Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson” and the recent HBO sports film “Joe Louis: America’s Hero . . . Betrayed.” Make sure you check out the article that I used to title this post, especially the most scathing revealing point concerning the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith. One of my favorite books “Cocaine: the Unauthorized Biography” also has an excellent chapter discussing these violent giant creatures. The book Forty Million Dollar Slaves by William C. Rhoden really offers insight and research into the subject.
Kimbo’s importance to MMA? Kimbo is as significant to the bottom line of MMA as his brother-in-crime Brock Lesnar. They’re both guilty of becoming successful MMA megastars over night. And they’re both bringing in casual fans. There’s definitely jealousy because they have not paid any dues and earning more money than reputable and highly skilled proven competitors in mixed martial arts. Detractors that state Kimbo is a one-trick pony without a proven ground-game, are probably new to the sport and are clearly forgetting MMA’s history. Not to mention the reason why Iceman Chuck Liddell is immensely popular, his KO power.
It is no secret that Gary Shaw is building up the Kimbo legend by feeding him sure-shot victories. Don’t hate the player, hate the game that promoter Gary Shaw plays. He comes from a boxing background, he’s all about making a profit and he publicly stated that the UFC mishandled Brock Lesnar’s major MMA debut by squaring him off against the limb-breaking jui-jitsu expert Frank Mir.
Recently Iceman stated that Kimbo didn’t really fight anyone which is true. Dana White doesn’t think Kimbo can compete in the UFC. Sean Gannon, the only man to beat Kimbo in the organized YouTube street contest was TKO’ed in the UFC and hospitalized for 3 weeks.
“Yeah, I love those guys. They’re great guys. I’m a big fan of the UFC. Chuck is one of my great fighters. I love watching him fight, I love his performances. I love what Dana White’s done for the sport man and if it wasn’t for those guys I wouldn’t be where I am today. I thank God for them and God bless them.” – Kevin Ferguson (Kimbo Slice)
Oddly enough Kimbo is still considered a street thug by many fans and MMA fighters although many other competitors have reportedly participated in street fights and bar room brawls. Yet people will still continue to call those organized arrangments between consenting adults, street brawls. Is their a subtle difference, you tell me. Lucky for him, YouTube began to emerge as the defacto amateur video outlet online.
Oh yeah, Tapping Is For Bitches. – Kimbo Slice
*I do feel sorry for brothers over 6 feet who are not professional athletes. They have to master the art of appearing less imposing and removing the bass from their voice. Fortunately I don’t have that problem, but I will keep my hands in clear view at all times and make sure I don’t make any sudden movements because I don’t want to be confused for a scary, violent giant negro.
And here’s a crappy Kimbo cartoon character. Damn, I’m good! Here’s an earlier so-so Kimbo piece.

A while back commenters callum and anonous strongly critiqued my ability to draw Milhouse, so I decided to give it another try. This tutorial has an animated gif and the real Milhouse.
I can imagine the frustration. You’re online looking for quick tutorial on how to draw Milhouse and just when you think you found it . . . you find a fake one. Google is our best friend, so I figured I’ll give Google a real treat. I also included another quick character based off Milhouse.
After all, why are you trying to draw Milhouse? He’s just a weed carrier.

If you want a really great How-to-Draw Simpsons guide, you should really ask your parents to purchase this book. The book is filled with Simpsons fun! Also check out the cool Bart Simpson tutorial. There’s another awesome tutorial just for Google coming some time next week.

Mindless Carnage, Hot Graphics. Although it may or may not be influenced by Sin City, it is another great example of pushing CG beyond the regular conveyor belt artwork common in major animated films. These screenshots looks like they came straight out of a comic book. I’m sure it won’t be too long before a video game mimics the pages of a manga book, action lines included.
I first got wind of this game from fellow blogger Shakespeare, who is really excited about the game and the Wii platform. He convinced me that Wii Fit is a great platform. It is probably as revolutionary as the iPhone. I’m figuring the possibilities and applications are only limited to the imagination of users. Considering purchasing a Nintendo Wii . . . imagine hooking up a real punching pad to the Wii Fit console.

Note, cool tutorial tomorrow.
I haven’t gone anywhere. just had some technical difficulties.

Did Ghostface capitalize off the success of the blockbuster hit Ironman?!? Probably not. Although his cameo may appear on the DVD extras, I see an opportunity. Hmmm . . . a special performance in NYC called the Tony Starks Show featuring Ghostface. You would figure his people would send a Marvel a proposal and present the event as a underground viral promotion. Ghost was cosigned by the director John Favreau, so they can probably get Marvel to sponsor the event.
I still didn’t see the film yet. I did not hear one bad word yet but leave it Dallas Penn to insightfully connect Starks Enterprises to General Electric. After all who’s manufacturing the weapons used in the perpetual Middle East conflict, Columbia decade long civil wars, Haitian rebels-military, and throughout Sudan, Darfur, Kenya, etc. Is it Tony Starks or Ghostface?
Ehhh, I’m also very interested in seeing the MMA film Redbelt, starring the great upcoming actor Chiwetel Ejiofor directed by David Mehmet (who happens to practice jiu-jitsu). While Ejiofor is probably known for playing Frank Lucas’ brother in American Gangster, I remember his performances in Woody Allen’s Melinda Melinda, Alfonso Cuaron’s Children of Men and the must see film, Don Cheadle’s Talk to Me. Purchase the DVD, it is really a great film. Zack, Shake, PurpleZoe, go watch Talk to Me.
Chiwetel Ejiofor will be appear alongside Don Cheadle again later this year in Danny Glover’s Toussaint. Surely there will be a separate post for this film.
Oh yeah, a quick throw-away unpolished piece. Its crappy but I learned lessons while creating it.

This piece was created using Colors! on my DS. Always a great way to pass the time on my way to work. I used Photoshop for some minor edits and also to frame this piece. I Love graf-style drawings but I only see them displayed in books and some web sites. So I plan on posting more. Next week, I will replacing the animated avatar on the sidebar.
Welcome. For those of you that are not familiar with this blog or the archives, here’s a cool drawing posted about 1 year ago by Scritch. This piece is definitely one of my favorites. It looks and feels like a Friday afternoon and I just left work. It feels like the steam room after a hard grueling work out. It feels stress free.

This is what you got to do when life presents stress-filled obstacles your way. Blow it out.
