Old Joints

Maybe I'll revisit these in the future. These are pretty old. There were some others, but they were alright. I was trying to create simple graphic illustrations that popped with color. I got some good feedback when I was looking for some work, but I got way more offers for "great exposure, we love your work, really original, but we can not pay you." I really loved hearing that, especially when I was waiting for checks to pay back 2 months of rent. Honestly, it is not pretty original, these illustrations are pretty much exercises. I hear and know that there are many wealthy people in the music industry who can give you a whole lot of exposure but will probably not pay you even if you have a contractual agreemeent. Or they'll pretty much take their time paying you back. Wait a minute, that also happens in television, so I guess it is just business. Berry Gordy learned some lessons about late payments, illegal business practices when Motown was at its peak and the catalog was known and loved by America. Biggie illustration  . . . I was trying to portray Little Big Homey being crucified. Nas illustration  This one should have been pushed further but I got lazy and decided to stick with a really simple treatment.  Little Kim illustration . . . and I posted this Snoop a little while back, but I like this one the most, because it had a little bit more style.  Snoop Dogg illustration

  • I remember when you did these joints….Fire!
You can still use them for something I think!!

  • I think I want to cop the BIG joint! What are the dimensions and whats your asking price?

  • As a painting? or as is? How would you like it?
Schedule wise I’m probably going to get back into some serious oil/acrylic painting towards the end of April well into the summer. Hopefully I’ll politic a decent show in ’08 or something.. I’ll be working on some huge canvases 18 x 24 and better. But usually if I do something for some one, I work a bit smaller. Regular portraits and wedding stuff. Some times I’m allowed to go crazy and add a little bit of flair or just simply stick to the script. Note, unfortunately some times I think like an artist and not a business man so I don’t have prints. Besides creating by hand is so much fun – assembly line prints are so impersonal and worth whatever you think it is worth, just like the falling dollar. Nothing is better than the original, well R. Kelly disproves that but you know what I mean.

Price depends on size and medium. I some times work with reasonable prices $250 – $500 if it’s a quickie. But when my four babies’ mamas blow up my phone, I can’t sell myself short so the minimum will be around $800.

Sorry I’m bored at work, this reply could have been shortened to 2-3 sentences.

Thanks for the shout out Combat Jack.

  • Let me know about your show. I dont know the dimensions of the B.I.G. as is. I’m in the process of house hunting in Brooklyn and I’d like that B.I.G. joint to represent an enitre wall. Let’s talk:

    combatjack@gmail.com.

A print (framed) might work, so could a painting on canvas. (I used to paint with acylic).

Dayum, four babies’ momma? One woman? I’m bout to go with my fourth, but I married her (same momma).

  • I’ll contact you later today via email.
Good luck on the house hunting.
. . . I guess B.I.G really does lives forever. Maybe I’ll try hooking up a Tupac picture in the future.
