Big Chuck Liddell will be victorious this weekend at UFC 97. Unlink many MMA fans, I do not think Liddell is past his prime at this stage in his career. Although Evans caught Liddell with the perfect fast counter punch, I think Liddell would drop Evans in a rematch. After all, prior to UFC 88, Rashad Evans could not finish a fight against top competition like current middle-weight fighter Michael Bisping.
There’s a strong case for Chuck Liddell winning. He has one-punch-neck-twisting KO power. His background in wrestling makes it extremely difficult to take him down. Liddell at his best is a counter puncher that makes over zealous fighters pay for rushing in. OK, Liddell made the same mistake twice against Rampage and then Evans but can lightning really strike at the same spot twice, oops I mean for the third time? I’m expecting to see a new, well refurbished Chuck Liddell. I hope he watches out for the flying head kicks and avoids the clinch against Rua. I believe Liddell vs Rua will be the best fight of the card.
Quick Update: MMA Junkie’s Performify believes Shogun will dominate Liddell in a one-sided affair, securing victory via TKO in the 2nd round. While he may be right with his great explanation, I’m rooting for Big Chuck!
